The stability of a computer is an extremely important factor, especially when we are talking about servers or overclocked components. If you are a system builder, you have to test the new computers to their limit to provide maximum performance and no risk for your customers. All that's left is to find the perfect software for pushing the computer to its limits and testing each component of it so as to make sure it's stable. A software that can do just that is Passmark BurnInTest Standard. The name of the program refers to the fact that components produce a lot of heat when they are stressed. If a component passes the software's tests, it will surely remain stable and reliable, no matter the usage level. Passmark is well known for making quality computer testing programs.

BurnInTest installs very quickly and doesn't require much effort from the user to complete the process. Every Windows version is supported for running this app and virtually, any hardware component can be tested, even older ones.

The interface is nicely structured and intuitive and features graphical buttons for most of the program's functions. First of all, the user needs to load a test configuration. A default one is provided by the application, but any type of custom configuration can be created by the user. After selecting the desired configuration file, the user can start the tests. One will notice a lot of windows opening on the desktop, each of them displaying the test parameters for a certain component of the system, for example the CPU or memory.

The user can stop the tests at any moment and the program will show a log that states the potential problem that may have appeared with some components. Besides that, a graph is displayed, showing the changing of the CPU and hard disk temperature over time.

Besides running all the tests simultaneously, the user can also run tests for certain components of the system, for example just for the CPU, for measuring the maximum temperature that it can achieve under heavy load. The test report can be saved as a HTML file or as an image or can be printed directly.

A feature of BurnInTest is the possibility to install the application onto an USB memory stick, to allow running it even on computer systems that don't have an operating system installed.

Pros

It has a nice and simple interface and it's very efficient at testing components, pushing them to their limits, for easily identifying the unstable ones.

Cons

The video card stress test could have been a little more complex. BurnInTest Standard is a great software for testing the system components and pushing them to their limits, for easily detecting the unstable ones.
